On Tap's Promotional Items extension adds a useful new tool to your Magento store's promotional capabilities.
This extension identifies products being added to the cart and, based upon a set of user definable rules, then adds one or more products to the cart automatically. These rules also define the quantity to add as well, allow multiple products and varying quantities of products to be added to the cart when any defined SKU is also added.
Each rule also has a user defined message that is displayed on the cart page to inform the customer that extra items have been added to their cart.
If you combine Magento's existing shopping cart price rules, this extension makes it easy to include discounted promotional items as a way to incentivise purchase.
If you don't want your customers to see the extra products being added to the cart, then each rule has the option of adding the promotional items to the order after it has been placed. So, for example, combined with zero priced promotional products you can add free samples to a customer's order and these products appear on your shipment PDFs so that they can be picked and packed.

Background
Some of our Magento products, including this one, are encoded with a Digital Rights Management (DRM) system called ioncube. This is used to protect our products from piracy and copyright infringements. This means that some or all of the code in our extensions is protected from modification.
Licensing per domain
Our extensions are licensed per domain, which means that they will only run on a specific web site.
For extensions that operate purely at the Magento back-end, this typically means you only need to license one domain regardless of stores in your Magento instance. For extensions that provide front-end changes, this typically means that you need a license for each domain name that will use the extension. We provide discounts for customers needing multiple domain licenses.
The license you receive also includes a free development server license so that you can test the extension prior to deploying it on your production server.
Delivery of your extension
Once you place an order we will generate a licensed version of the extension and deliver this to you by email. We do this as quickly as possible, but the process might take up to 2 business days during busy times. We are working to automate this process to provide immediate delivery in the near future.
What if I want to change the code?
We don't protect CSS, XML or .phtml files, so you still have the ability to customise the look and feel, and often some logic. If you have a specific need to customise one of our products beyond this, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
Why not just provide the full source code?
We invest time and effort into building and supported our Magento products. In order to protect this investment we have decided to encode our work.
How do I install ioncube?
Installing ioncube is generally very simple, and may already have been installed by your web host. If it is not, we provide the necessary 'loader files' that can be installed. You can grab the loader files here. We can assist you with the process. All hosting packages from On Tap come with ioncube pre-installed.
Are all of your products encoded?
No. Only our commercial products.
